It’s Official: Disney Acquires Maker Studios

Disney has indeed bought Maker Studios, the YouTube network that generates 5.5 billion views a month, for $500 million,along with a potential $450 million in performance-based earn outs.
With more than 55,000 channels, 380 million subscribers and 5.5 billion views per month on YouTube, Maker has established itself as the top online video network for Millennials. By acquiring it Disney will gain advanced technology and business intelligence capability regarding consumers’ discovery and interaction with short-form online videos, including Disney content.

New frames for Google Glass

Google on Monday announced a strategic partnership with Italian-based Luxottica Group to design and manufacture frames for Google Glass.

At first name Luxottica might not ring a bell, but it represents such brands as Armani, Prada, Versace, Miu Miu and of course Ray Ban and Oakley, which were selected as two first brands to open the partnership.

Project Morpheus

A few weeks ago I tested a VR helmet Oculus Rift, which made a huge impression on me . At some point, my brain is almost completely lost touch with the outside world. It is a unique and very interesting feeling, however, there are many challenges before Oculus will be ready for the mass audience.
In the meantime Sony is going to start unexplored but presumably promising market of virtual reality. The strategy of the company is the development of a new market for computer technology in the gaming industry.

Avon partners with Korres in Latin America



US based cosmetics firm Avon Products and Greek brand Korres are teaming up to form a Strategic Alliance in order to expand their respective businesses in Latin America. According the agreement, Avon will exclusively develop, manufacture and market Korres products in Latin America. This long-term strategic alliance includes all major markets where Avon operates in Latin America, and provides Avon the option to purchase all of the intellectual property rights to the Korres products in that region.

Vodafone acquires Spanish cable operator Ono for 7,2 billon euros

Vodafone, British multinational telecommunications company, announced an agreement to buy Spain's largest cable operator Ono on March 17, 2014.

Vodafone has about 14 million customers in Spain, while Ono offers cable TV, fixed and mobile communications services to 1.9 million customers on its network covering 7.2 million Spanish households out of around 16 million. Ono entered Spanish broadband market at a later stage comparing to other cable companies, benefiting from the opportunity to use advanced technologies allowing to develop broadband speed of up to 200 megabits per second, which is up to 20 times the average of rival networks.

Indian conglomerate Tata Group announced the acquisition of Dallas, TX based 7-Eleven, Inc for an undisclosed sum. From making the world's cheapest car to acquiring 7-Eleven, Tata has yet again proved its mark by adding another company to its long list.

With the acquisition of 7-Eleven, Tata for the first time has ventured into the convenience store business, it will be setting up a new corporation under the Tata Group of companies that will concentrate exclusively on retailing and merchandising.The new company will be called Tata Marin and will handle all business generated by the newly acquired 7-Eleven Inc.

Canada-South Korea trade deal pitfalls for Ontario auto industry

New trade deal fails to protect the domestic auto industry

One of the most important news of the last week came from Seoul, where Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and South Korean President Park Geun-Hye announced that Canada and South Korea have reached a free-trade agreement, ending around nine years of on-off negotiations.
The agreement will eliminate 98.2% of South Korean tariffs and 97.8% of Canadian duties, the Canadian government said in document released to reporters. Currently, South Korean duties average about 13.3%, while Canadian tariffs average 4.3%.
